BARRAGEM

This is the barragem,  a man made lake over 40 kilometers long, best approached from Ferreira do Zezere, and when you see the sign for Largo Azul, you turn off the main road and go downhill to the lake.

This is the Barragem, or part of it , and it has some excellent attractions. You can bring a picnic and sit on the shores of this beautiful lake and enjoy nature in a tranquil surroundings, or go to the restaurant and enjoy a good three course lunch for 7.95 euros , (prato de dia) this was in March so will be more in season. You can go swimming in the “floating pool “ with diving board, life guard normally present in season. An other option is fishing, it is possible to hire a boat, but at the moment have not found out where, or there is the lazy option, just go for a cruise on the good ship S.Cristovao.

If you are feeling a little more energetic , it is possible to walk along the earth track to S. Pedro de Castro  where you will have a splendid panoramic view over the Zezere and there is the small temple built in roman times (or from materials of that time) as is well worth the effort. It is about 2km and the road is not recommended for cars, particularly after rain. So really there is something here for everyone. Time from Carregal approx 35 min.
