BEACHES

These are pictures of the nearest beaches, and the quickest way is probably to go to Marinha Grande, or to go across country to Pedrogoa which is the shortest as the crow flies. From there there is a road which runs parallel to the coast all the way down to Nazare, where they used oxen to draw the nets up the beach after the fleet returned, and was a very sleepy little village , but now is very touristy. S.Pedro de Moel is worth a visit as it is a favorite with the Portuguese for their holidays and weekend breaks.
All the way down there are stop off’s for picnics and on the coast itself a number of cafe’s and kiosks with the loo’s and facilities that go with them. The road for the most part is very straight and there are a number of stretches that are quite densely forested, There is so much beach and except in the peak of the season , so few people, that it is hard to imagine having a problem finding a quiet spot just for you. With it being the Atlantic the temperature is a degree or two lower than the Algarve, but if you need cooling down, it will do the trick. Well worth the effort of getting there. Approx one hour and a quarter from Carregal.
