Front-Door-450

This is the front door to the house, under the balcony.

Originally this was the door to the “Adega”, Wine cellar or store, (you can go to the As We Were page to see the photos of how the house looked before purchase) which has been converted to kitchen/dining room, but is now the main entrance.

Just below left, is the secondary entrance to the house, which takes you into the “Bakery” with mezzanine floor

The Adega held the wine press and the barrels and bottled wine, or going even further back in time, animals were kept there during the winter months and their body heat would rise and help to warm up the house. For the mid winter when nights can get a little chilly, there electric are oil filled radiators.

These are the photographs of the ADEGA (kitchen/dining room).                                         Adega-enhanced-1-2008

Top of the three, has the back door leading out to the rear verandah with two windows which were put in to give additional light , with the sink unit in the far corner , and gas cooker against the far wall.As you can see the original beams to the room have been kept, with insulation between the beams.
